...Remove all sorrows, grow as endearing ones,
and merge in OM..."

With these words, Amma opens her urgent call to come home to our true self. This verse and others from the famous text Omkara Divya Porule are anchor teachings at the sacred Amritapuri ashram. Omkara Divya Porule is said to be a living scripture, or the Amrita Gita. In Sanskrit, "Amrita" means "Immortality" and "Gita" means "Song". Amrita Gita can be interpreted as the Song of Immortality or the Immortal Song. It is the essence of all Amma’s teachings delivered to us in their pure form through verse.

Imagine having a guided tour of these teachings by Amma's original disciples who have devoted their lives to understanding and living their essence! This course will provide a full year of satsangs on the 33 verses of Omkara Divya Porule, Vol 2, plus monthly live Zoom Q&A sessions. Both scripture and song, these teachings can awaken our inner eye and heart as we learn the profound meaning of the teachings and hear personal stories about the ashram’s early days.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn traditional methods of Vedantic study, and absorb and practice the essence of Amma’s teachings. Recordings of the bhajan Omkara Divya Porule, Vol 2, an online community forum, and surprise bonus gems collected from the community of Amritapuri will be available throughout.

Course Details

Connect with Amma's teachings in an engaging study requiring only two hours per month. Each month enjoy one hour of pre-recorded satsang videos, culminating in a one-hour live Zoom Q&A at the end of the month, for an enlightening year!

  • Course Structure

    • Each month one of Amma’s Swamis will deliver three satsangs on three consecutive verses of Omkara Divya Porule, Vol. 2. Each satsang will include the pronunciation, literal translation, and commentary.

    • These on-demand satsangs will be released at the beginning of the month for 11 months—33 satsangs in all.

    • The last week of each month is reserved for a live Zoom Q&A with the Swamis or our Course Facilitator.

  • Facilitator & Community Interaction

    • Enjoy a guided study of Omkara Divya Porule, Vol. 2

    • A study guide, PDF of the Omkara Divya Porule, Vol. 2 verses, and monthly live Q&As will aid the deep exploration of Amma’s teachings provided in the Satsangs.

    • Ask questions and interact with other students via the online community forum exclusive to Amrita Virtual Academy Members.

A Short History of
Omkara Divya Porule

Omkara Divya Porule is a poetic rendition of Amma's teachings by Swami Turiyamritanada Puri. As a teenager, Swamiji, then called "Puja Ooni", or simply "Ooni", came to what is now the Amritapuri ashram, when it was Amma's small family home. Since young Ooni could not be persuaded to leave—he had to be by Amma’s side—he became the first ashram resident.

When Amma spoke to visiting devotees, Swamiji noticed so many gems of wisdom, he felt the teachings should be collected, and so he noted down Amma's words, and later put them in verse form. At that time, Amma spoke of many spiritual paths—of Selfless Action, Devotion, and the path of Knowledge based in Non-dual philosophy. The Mahavakya ‘Omkara Divya Porule’ is the essence of all Amma’s teachings:
You are the divine essence of OM…

The first volume of Omkara Divya Porule was released in 1985 for Amma's 32nd birthday, with a new volume released each year on Amma’s birthday by Swami Turiyamritanandaji. Thirty-nine volumes have been released so far, with Volume 39 released on Amma’s 70th birthday, in 2023. Throughout the years, over 13 volumes have been set to music by Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, and sung by Amma and Swami Amritaswarupanandaji.
