AMRITA YOGA CLASSES
For these gentle yoga classes, you will need your yoga mat and meditation cushion or chair. Please practice safely and at your own pace.
If you are not able to do yoga, you may use the time to do japa (mantra repetition) in front of your altar or while walking in your yard, garden, or home.
On the first day, you will have the choice of two classes:
- Amrita Yoga Beginner Level 1: Introduction of Asana practice. This level is for those with little or no experience in Yoga or some limited mobility. Amma’s spiritual teachings, the breath and internal chanting of mantras will be given for the Asanas.
Amrita Yoga Beginner Level 2: Experienced beginners in Asana practice. Variations within some Asanas will be given to offer a deeper exploration. Amma’s spiritual teachings, the breath and internal chanting of mantras will be integrated into the Asanas.
On the second day, there will be one class for everyone:
Amrita Yoga All Levels Class: This class expands upon Beginner Levels 1 and 2 by offering variations in the flow of the Asanas. Each participant can follow the level offered that is best suited to their ability and comfort.
These Amrita Yoga classes are offered with the theme of Divine Love and the Heart.
Amma says:
“Unlike other exercises, yoga asanas (postures) are practiced slowly, paying attention to the breathing. At the same time, one must observe every movement of the body with utmost awareness. In this way, one can make the mind serene and foster the experience of meditative stillness. Thus, yoga benefits body and mind equally.”
About Amrita Yoga
We have the very rare opportunity to practice yoga with the Guidance and Grace of a living Self Realized Master, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma). Amma has said “Having awareness in each and every cell in your body is Yoga”. With this spiritual mindset, both new and experienced yoga practitioners can delve deep within the Asanas. In Amrita Yoga, “we use the body to experience the embodied”. As different Yoga levels are offered, and variations within an Asana; we encourage the inward journey with the breath and mantras to deepen awareness.
Yoga tradition has said “the Yogi’s life is not measured by the number of one’s days but by the number of one’s breaths”. Although yoga asanas advance in physical challenge, the greatest challenge remains to practice with a still mind. For this we are all endowed with the breath to naturally align ourselves and further to resonate with sacred mantras.Practice safely and at your own pace.
May you feel Amma’s presence in your Amrita Yoga practice.
