Bharatanatyam is a form of dance originating in South India more than 2000 years ago. It was originally performed only in temples, as an integral part of the temple worship.

In this workshop, Nadasri will explain the dance step-by-step in an easy and clear way.

  • What?

    A two minute Bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance) choreography. This dance is themed around Lord Ganesha, the divine aspect associated with auspiciousness. Traditionally, Ganesha is known to remove obstacles and enable our endeavors to succeed.

  • How long?

    Depending on your level and your dedication, this choreography can take between two days and two weeks to learn.

Meet Your Instructor

Nadasri, Amritapuri

Nadasri began her studies of Bharatanatyam dance in 1996 and regularly teaches workshops and classes in the Amritapuri ashram. Nadasri is a regular choreographer in Amritapuri.

Every year during Onam, the Kerala harvest festival in August, Amma calls on all of her children to forget themselves and dance in the bliss of the remembrance of the Lord. Nadasri’s students have performed for Amma during the most important festivals like Onam, Navaratri, Amma's birthday and New Year's Eve. Nadasri has also performed Bharatanatyam dance in Amma’s presence both in both Amritapuri and during Amma's world tours.
